Riftbound deck building rules, spelled out
What a legal Constructed deck contains, in one list:
- 1 Legend, which sets the domains your deck may use.
- 1 Chosen Champion in its own slot, matching your Legend’s domains.
- 39 cards in the main deck: units, spells and gear.
- Exactly 12 runes. Copies of the same rune are allowed here.
- 3 battlefields, each one different.
- At most 3 copies of any name, and the champion’s copy counts toward its playset.
- At most 3 Signature printings in the whole deck, across all names.

Is the deck 40 cards or 39?
Both, depending on what you count. The physical main deck you shuffle is 40 cards; one of them is your Chosen Champion, which starts the game in play rather than in the deck. Deck sites therefore list 39 cards plus a champion slot, and Mejai’s models it the same way: crowning a card moves one copy out of the list, un-crowning puts it back.
Do runes and battlefields count toward the 40?
No. Runes are their own 12-card stack and battlefields their own set of three. A complete deck on the table is 40 + 12 + 3.
What trips people up
The champion’s copy still counts toward the 3-copy playset of that name, so a crowned card leaves room for only two more copies in the list. And the Signature cap is not per card: three Signature printings total, however you spread them. The deck builder enforces every rule above while you build, so an illegal deck simply cannot be assembled in it.
